Mansfield traveled to Oliver Ames High School last night to compete in the Hockomock League Meet. The League Meet would turn out to be one of the most exciting League Meets of all time as it was a 1-2 point meet all night with North Attleboro. North came out on top with a 13 point victory and Mansfield grabbed runner-up honors.
The field events started the day off grabbing some big points. In the throwing events, Andrea Turteltaub led the charge with her 3rd place finish in the Javelin with a throw of 14’11 while Jennie McCarthy threw a big PR of 102’5 to grab 5th place. Lindsay Beise would grab a 4th in the discus with a throw of 88’11. In the high jump Caitlyn Finnerty would jump 5′ for the second time in her career for a 3rd place while Andrea Garabdian skied over 4’10 for a 4th place finish. In the triple jump Mansfield would place two jumpers. Kelsey Ferreira had a PR of 36’1 for a 2nd place and Marissa Horn would grab a 6th place finish.
The Hornets were very successful in the running events. The first event up was the 2 mile and it was a very exciting race to watch as Sami Carey finished in 2nd place with a time of 11:38.79. Jen Esposito would be next in the 400 hurdles as she broke her own meet record for the win in a time of 61.96 while Julia Jones passed a runner in the final straightway to grab 4th place finish. Jen then came back in the next event to qualify and eventually win the 200 in a time of 25.97. Some big points came in the 100 hurdles as Kelsey Ferreira and Dana Foley went 2-3. The 100 dash would showcase two freshman for Mansfield as Abby Broles and Molly Shield grabbed 4th and 5th place. Ten more points would come in the 400 as Maddie Oldow ran a 59.97 and Amerantes a 60.51 for 3rd and 4th place.
All three relays would place in the top 6. The 4×100 team of Molly Shield, Kelsey Ferreira, Meg Chemburkar and Caitlin Finnerty would place 4th in a time of 51.85. The 4×400 team of Molly Jenssen, Mikaila Amerantes, Maddie Oldow, and Julie Jones would grab a 1st place finish in a time of 4:07.95. While the 4×800 team of Meg Cole, Laura Burnham, Kelly McGee, and Sami Carey would take home a 4th place finish in a time of 10:04.95.
